In a last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare and “defund” PP, Senator McConnell has called for a vote NEXT WEEK on a straight repeal of Obamacare with a two-year implementation delay. This bill mirrors the 2015 bill that then-President Obama vetoed — which notably includes a provision to «defund» Planned Parenthood.
Four Senators have stated that they will not support a straight repeal, including Senator Portman, which could kill the repeal. This would be an enormous win for healthcare and for the progressive movement. It would not only serve to protect millions of people's access to health care — but would be a powerful blow to the Republican leadership’s momentum on a broader agenda designed to further undermine people’s rights in this country.
We're SO CLOSE, but we have to get there first. There is no doubt that Senator Portman will be under tremendous pressure to reverse his stance. We must focus on securing a final win in this phase of our fight — zeroing in on our target senators while also organizing and communicating broadly around the harms of this bill.
See you all on Thursday!
